Desert Baptism;

This post is a text directly lifted from my devotional "Our Daily Journey". God spoke beautifully through this message that I wanted to share it to everyone. I encourage you to take off a few minutes of your time and read Romans 10 first (specifically verses 8-13) before proceeding.

And I quote:

For me, the most memorable image from the Iraq War is the desert baptism. Perhaps you recall the photo of a chaplain in camouflage as he immersed a new convert in a "field expedient" baptisml constructed of sandbags and tarp.

Two days later that new believer was killed. His Christian family found comfort in his recent decision for Jesus. They had prayed for him for years!

Some have the impression that the important aspect of baptism is the way it's performed, but the Bible teaches that the significance of baptism is found in what it symbolizes - a new relationship with Jesus.

God won't reject us on technicalities. He won't say, "Well you believed in My Son, but I saw your hand stay above the water when you got baptized. Sorry. No heaven for you."

Some may say the thief on the cross prayed the wrong prayer. He never asked Jesus to forgive him for his sins. He never got baptized, nor had the chance to do one good deed to atone for his life of crime. He said simply, "Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom" (Luke 23:42). Jesus replied, "Today you will be with Me in paradise" (v.43).

Ironically, the other criminal - the one who rejected Jesus - said the right words: "Aren't you the Christ? Save Yourself and us" (v.39). But he said it mockingly.

The vital element for our salvation isn't a magic phrase we repeat. The only essential element is genuine faith in the right Person - Jesus!

No amount of water, good deeds, self-denial, or faith in a religious system can wash away our sins. Only the blood of Jesus can do that. Is He the object of your faith? - Tim Gustafson

End of quote.

A Godly Christmas to all of you, go and spread the word!
